COVID-19 video update: pastor Mike nedelko

We have suspended our corporate worship gatherings until further notice. Please take a moment to hear Pastor Mike shed some light on how we plan to continue to move up and out in new life in Jesus Christ during this time.

dear newlife church family,

We want to provide our NewLife Family with an update on COVID-19 pandemic response to date and our plans moving forward. We are aiming to make all plans with prayer, wisdom, and care, not fear or panic.

Many people are responding to all of this with fear. But for us as followers of Christ, there is truly no reason to experience such unrest. In fact, we have something to offer in times of global fear and uncertainty: something that is bigger, eternal, and good. We have the honour of pointing to another beautiful way of living. This way is often is opposition to the world.

As the NAB team astutely observed, "For many, COVID-19 seems to produce two opposite reactions: a kind of cynicism that minimizes the actual risk and ignores those who are most vulnerable to the disease; or a kind of panic and fear that overreacts and stockpiles items for themselves. Neither is the way of Jesus."

We do need to protect ourselves, and maybe more importantly, we need to do this to prevent inadvertently infecting someone else; especially those that are vulnerable for a variety of age-related or health-related reasons.

Love is a verb. Therefore, each of need to be responsible and take action in observing the recommended hand washing, cleaning, and social distancing in order to do our part to slow and stop this virus. God is already at work in our communities. COVID-19 can be an opportunity to listen to God's call to join His work in our little corner of the world. It will be exciting to celebrate and share the work that God is undoubtedly doing during this time.

As you know, the situation is changing on a daily basis. New information is often correcting information from the day before. The severity and length of this pandemic is truly unknown at this time.

Please know that our church is closely monitoring communications from health officials and our government about COVID-19 and will inform you of any changes. We will also be providing updates here on our website (see updates below & video above) and our Facebook page. Please subscribe to receive updates by e-mail.

Thank you so much for your faithful giving to the mission and ministry of our church. We would not be able to do what we do in our church & community without your faithful support. Even if you are not at a worship service, there are many ways you can give. You can mail or drop off your tithe and offerings at the church or you can give online

This is a challenging time for all of us. We want you to know that Pastor Mike, our church staff, and our Board of Elders are available to care and provide support in any way we can. Times like these call us to lean more heavily on the community that surrounds us. While it may be necessary to create physical space between us for a time, this is precisely the time we need to find ways to lean in socially. Isolate physically as necessary, but please reach out to those near you for support and help.

As Christ's followers, we are called to trust in His protection and His provision (Psalm 23). Our peace and security are not based on having easy circumstances. Instead, our confidence is anchored in His love, power and goodness. May we all experience the assurance of His protection and peace at this time, and let us extend His love to those around us. Let's commit as a church family to dedicated prayer about this global pandemic. Let's pray these words together:

May we who are merely inconvenienced remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors remember those most vulnerable.

May we who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when the schools are closed remember those who have no options.

May we who have to cancel our trips remember those that have no safe place to go.

May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market remember those who have no margin at all.

May we who choose self-isolation and physical distancing to protect the vulnerable, settle in at home and remember those who have no home.

As fear grips our county, let us trust Jesus and choose love.

During this time when we cannot physically be close to or wrap our arms around each other,

Let us yet find ways to be the loving words of God to encourage and support our neighbors.

Your brothers & sisters in Christ,

The NewLife Staff Team & Board

As you know, COVID-19 has continued to spread in affected areas over the past week. We are aware the the World Health Organization has declared that COVID-19 is a pandemic and a number of public gatherings are being canceled nationally and internationally.

In Lloydminster, as of today (March 12th), there are no current cases of COVID-19. However, we are aware that this situation can change. We will gather on Sunday, March 15th. However, please note:

    • The NewLife Kids team ask that all parents help their children wash their hands thoroughly before checking them in downstairs.
    • Please be aware that the Welcome Team will refrain from shaking hands at church for the time being, and we kindly ask that you do the same for the time being.
    • While we typically pass the offering baskets throughout the congregation during our Sunday service, we ask that you give online or place your cash or cheques in the box at the back of the sanctuary instead.
As we receive information that relates to our gatherings as a church family, we'll keep you updated.
